The Housing Development Consortium (HDC) of Seattle-King County (www.housingconsortium.org), a nonprofit association with 200+ members who are working to produce and preserve affordable housing and are dedicated to the vision that all people throughout King County live with dignity in safe, healthy, and affordable homes, announce May 7th to 13th to be the 8th annual King County Affordable Housing Week.

Affordable Housing Week will focus on a series of education and advocacy events to highlight the role affordable housing plays in stabilizing our communities and share information on how we can organize for what our communities need to thrive. It is an opportunity for elected officials, advocates, and all King County residents to come together as part of the affordable housing movement on issues central to affordable housing. These virtual and in-person events will seek to empower and motivate you to be a part of the solutions that are within our reach when we collaborate as a movement!

King County’s exacerbated need for affordable housing is a regional problem and impacts all municipalities. We are excited to announce that twenty-six (26) local jurisdictions (King County and 25 cities within King County) have issued a proclamation declaring May 7th to 13th as Affordable Housing Week. Our goal is to have all cities issue proclamations as affordability and homelessness are sustained regional problems that need effective regional collaboration.

This Affordable Housing Week, we are setting the stage for what we hope will ignite an unprecedented investment in affordable housing across our region as we collectively grapple with the essential need “Housing Equity.” This is an opportunity to build the momentum necessary to engage cities across King County in adopting new and effective strategies to address our local affordable housing needs.
