Welcome to 2026, members, community stakeholders, and tireless affordable housing advocates!

The 2026 Washington State legislative session kicks off on January 12, 2026. This short session is a critical opportunity to push for transformational change in affordable housing in our state.

Our lead priorities this year are to increase funding for affordable homes, build equitable, sustainable, and complete communities, and ensure housing is healthy, stable, and safe. Check out our 2026 Legislative Agenda for more information about our full legislative priorities.

We have a number of lead priorities and support bills this session. Your participation and support of these bills as they advance through the legislative process will be critical to our advocacy.

HDC is a resource for you to understand and advocate during this legislative session. We need your voice, passion, and advocacy. Below are the key cut-off dates that every bill needs to clear, in order to pass into law. We hope you join us

February 4Policy Committee Cutoff. Last day to read in committee reports in house of origin, except House fiscal committees and Senate Ways & Means and Transportation committees.
February 9Fiscal Committee Cutoff. Last day to read in committee reports from House fiscal committees and Senate Ways & Means and Transportation committees in house of origin.
February 17House of Origin Cutoff. Last day to consider bills in house of origin.
February 25Policy Committee Cutoff – Opposite House. Last day to read in committee reports from opposite house, except House fiscal committees and Senate Ways & Means and Transportation committees.
March 2Fiscal Committee Cutoff – Opposite House. Last day to read in opposite house committee reports from House fiscal committees and Senate Ways & Means and Transportation committees.
March 6Last day to pass opposite house bills, except budgets and matters “necessary to implement budgets.”
March 12End of session
