HDC Celebration

We hope you join us for our 11th Annual Celebration on April 23rd, 2019. We are so excited to have U.S Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith as our keynote speaker.

U.S Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith

“We were made to understand it would be terrible.
Every small want, every niggling urge, every hate swollen to a kind of epic wind.

Livid, the land, and ravaged, like a rageful Dream.
The worst in us having taken over and broken the rest utterly down.

A long age passed. When at last we knew how little would survive us–how little we had mended or built that was not lost–something large and old awoke. And then our singing brought on a different manner of weather.

Then animals long believed gone crept down from trees/ We took new stock of                                     one another. We wept to be reminded of such color.”

(“An Old Story” from Wade in the Water, Tracy K. Smith)

More details will be released as we get closer to the date, but until then reach out to [email protected] regarding sponsorship opportunities and additional details.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in 2018 to mark HDC’s 30th Anniversary!

In 2018, our celebration program honored our past 30 years of service, while embracing the next three decades of work together.
